Episode 306: Night at the Lazerama

In Which: Justin loses Juliet to a mummy...and then gets comforted by Alex, whose big advice basically amounts to, "Instead of running after Juliet, why not stay here and hug me instead?"

JALEXCAP
Alex walks into the lair and finds Justin and Juliet being all cuddly with each other:

Alex: Hey you two weirdos, get a cave.
Juliet: Don't be afraid of love, Alex. It's what makes the world go round.
Alex: Aw. Well, so does money, so what's it going to cost to get you two out of here, because I gotta study.
(For more on why Alex is in a studying kind of mood for once, see the AlexCap below.)

They are suddenly interrupted by the arrival of the chancellor of the Monster Hunter Council. He greets the kids warmly, but when he makes a comment about smelling "vanilla and death" (Juliet's vampire scent), Alex takes Juliet and they run out of the room before he can figure out Juliet's a monster.

Toward the end of the episode, Alex has successfully managed to figure her way out of another wizarding mess (again, see the AlexCap) and the first thing to pop out of her mouth? "Aw, man, I'm getting better at this! Justin should really watch his back. I can't wait to tell him!" She casts a quick spell to find out where Justin is--and that's when she discovers that Justin and Juliet are trapped in the museum with the mummy.

Once Alex gets to the museum, she finds that Juliet and the mummy are gone and that Justin is locked in the display case. She figures out how to open the plastic window, all the while continuing to freak out: "Justin! Are you okay?? I saw that you were trapped. What happened?? Am I too late??" Justin explains that the mummy took Juliet, and that it had been the only way to get Juliet out of the museum before sunrise.

Alex chooses now to make a joke about Juliet's sunlight issues: "Well, I guess that's something that you guys are always gonna have to deal with. I mean, just like whoever I end up with is gonna have to deal with all this." She gestures at herself. I'm not sure if she's supposed to be mocking her own various issues or what exactly, because I'm more curious about the fact that Alex thinks Juliet not being able to be in the sunlight is a bigger problem for Justin right now than the fact that she's been brainwashed and taken to Egypt or something.

Anyway, Justin lets the remark pass. "Wow," Alex says, "I threw you a lob and you didn't swing. You must be pretty upset." Justin tells Alex that he loves Juliet. Then he goes to sit on a bench. Alex sits next to him.

Alex: Well, you know what they say....
Justin and Alex stare at each other for a second before Alex continues.
Alex: If you love somebody, set them free. And if they really love you, they'll come back.

(So basically, Alex doesn't think Justin should be proactive in getting Juliet back? Hm.)

Justin: Not if they're a mind-slave to a mummy.
Alex [throwing her hands in the air]: Okay, so clearly I'm not as good as you are at making people feel better, so let's just hug and go get some cookie dough ice cream.
Justin [crying and reaching over to hug Alex]: Cookie dough!
Alex [patting him]: There, there. Let it all out, all right.... Hey, maybe I am good at this!

Justin pulls out a handkerchief and loudly blows his nose. Alex makes a face, but doesn't pull away from him. End episode.

JustinCap: The chancellor of the Monster Hunter Council visits Justin and informs him that he has finished the course. When Justin points out that he hasn't completed the class yet, the chancellor explains that all of the other registered Monster Hunters have vanished and that they need Justin to find and capture the runaway mummy (from a previous episode). When Justin asks if the mummy is responsible for the other Hunters being gone, the chancellor replies, "I'm REQUIRED to say 'no'...." He also warns Justin not to look the mummy directly in the eye, or else Justin will become one of the mummy's mindless servants. Justin starts the search by taking Juliet with him to the museum for research purposes. All goes well until they end up trapped inside one of the display cases. Justin thinks they should just wait until the morning to be rescued, except--oops, the display case is right underneath a skylight, which means that by sunrise Juliet will be a pile of ashes (hey, works for this Jalex shipper). When the mummy arrives, Justin tells Juliet that the only way she'll stay safe is if she looks the mummy in the eye and becomes one of his servants--then, Justin thinks, the mummy will free Juliet from the display case and she'll be gone before sunrise. Juliet is reluctant but she eventually agrees. They catch the attention of the mummy, who uses his powers to release Juliet from the case. In a very stupid move, instead of IMMEDIATELY RUNNING AWAY NOW THAT SHE'S OUT OF THE CASE, Juliet just stands there and lets the mummy turn her into a zombie servant. As the mummy and Juliet leave the museum, Justin vows to eventually find her and free her.

AlexCap: Alex realizes that thanks to Max's Conscience, Max is getting ahead of her in their wizarding studies. Now worried that Max will be a threat at the wizard competition, she conspires to separate Max from Conscience for awhile (by getting Harper to take Conscience to the Lazerama laser show)--that way, Max will fall behind in his studies and she'll have a chance to catch up. Once Conscience is gone, Max becomes an absolute terror at the station. Jerry confronts Alex and tells her that if Conscience is separated from Max for too long, he'll become a separate person altogether, and Max will have lost Conscience forever. Alex races to find Conscience, forces him back home and (with guidance from Jerry) casts a spell that finally reunites Conscience and Max. Max returns to normal, but Alex barely has time to pat herself on the back before she realizes that Justin is in trouble (see the JalexCap above).
