Episode 214: Art Teacher

In Which: Alex tries to save art class, Justin gets annoyed when Max fakes being sick, and Jalex only have one scene together (but if you're only gonna have one scene, it might as well be one where Alex chains Justin up).

JALEXCAP
Only one Jalex scene in this episode, but at least it's a cute one. At the very beginning of the ep, Jerry comes into the lair and tells Alex, Justin and Max that since Theresa is out of town, wizarding class is cancelled and they're going to have fun instead. Alex's idea of fun is Jerry handing over her allowance, but Jerry tells them that they are going to play "Spell Roulette"--each one will get to close his or her eyes and put a finger down on a spell from the book, at random. Whichever spell it is, they agree to cast. Max goes first, picking a spell that turns him into a dog. Jerry brings out the "Undo Dust" and explains that it can be used when a wizard forgets how to reverse a spell.  When Justin hears this, he starts hovering suggestively over Alex's shoulder.

Justin [smirking at Alex]: Huh! What kind of wizard, Alex, would be so ill-prepared, Alex, to where they would forget a reverse spell, Alex?
Alex [smirking back at Justin]: What kind of jerk, Justin, would-- oh, you know what, I'm good with just saying that.

Jerry sprinkles the dust on Max and he returns to human form. Alex's turn next, but instead of randomly choosing a spell, she flips through the book and chooses the one she wants, while Justin and Jerry protest ("She doesn't do the rules on ANYTHING!" Justin complains).

Alex casts a spell that wraps Justin, Jerry and Max up in heavy metal chains. She approaches Jerry, about to take his wallet so that she can get her allowance.

Alex: I'll be out spending my allowance.
Jerry: Sorry, Alex, I don't have any cash on me. Guess you should have thought your little plan through a little more carefully.
Alex [sneakily]: Oh, I did.
Alex goes over towards Justin, who immediately starts objecting: "What?? I'm part of your plan?? No!" She then slips her hand into his back pocket and pulls out his wallet.

As Justin watches helplessly, she thumbs through it and takes out some cash: "Dad, you owe Justin $25." Alex leaves the lair, with Justin and Jerry chasing after her.

That's it for Jalex in this ep.

AlexCap: A lot going on with Alex this ep. First up, art class (the only subject she cares about). After TJ mouths off to the teacher, Miss Majorhealy, she gives him detention and asks Alex to stay after and help clean up the room. Alex agrees because she likes Miss Majorhealy and REALLY likes that Miss Majorhealy hates TJ. Then, because Alex is Alex, she uses her magic to clean up the room. Miss Majorhealy notices and Alex tries to play it off with a (very bad) lie about being a fast cleaner. Miss Majorhealy is not convinced, so that night she crashes Alex and Harper's sleepover, where she accuses Alex of being a wizard. When Alex denies it, Miss Majorhealy drops a bombshell: she isn't really an art teacher, she is a 16 year old girl who TJ dated, dumped, and cursed (for good measure) into the body of a 40 year old woman. Alex uses the "Undo Dust" on Miss Majorhealy, which does in fact turn her back into a 16 year old girl named Jenny. Jenny quits her job as art teacher and Mr. Larritate decides to fill in as art teacher himself. During his first class, Alex gives a speech about what it takes to make true art. And then she gets into a paint fight with TJ. All of this makes Mr. Larritate realize that he needs to hire a real art teacher. (Alex also has a couple of other cute scenes: one with Dwayne Johnson--see "Justin Plotline" below--where she tells him that her hobby is poking things with a stick. Another where she catches Jerry "bull riding" and snaps a picture with her cell phone camera.)

JustinCap: Max decides to get out of gym class by faking "mono-orangosis," a disease that he says has made him unable to recognize the color orange. Justin thinks it's stupid, until Max is visited by a couple of celebrity well-wishers (actor/wrestler Dwayne Johnson and Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor). This pisses Justin off, and he spends the rest of the episode being outrageously outraged that Max is getting away with such a lie.
